On Tuesday night we found out that our campaign for Kansas State House did not end the way I had hoped for. We received 47% of the vote and my opponent received 53%. We had an uphill battle from the very beginning, even with the Democratic tendencies of this election year. Yet, in only four months we came within 896 votes of a seven-term incumbent with decades of name recognition and an enormous financial lead. We raised nearly $30,000 from hundreds of supporters from across the district, state and country. Finally, we raised awareness on the issues that are affecting Kansans the most--health care, education, energy policy, and the economy.
Thanks to all of my friends, family, and contributors for the incredible support you shown throughout the past few months. Also, thanks to the voters in the district who took time out to chat with me about your concerns. I would have loved to be your State Representative. While I may not be going to Topeka as your legislator, I will still certainly be following and contributing to the debate there. My concern for the issues does not stop just because the campaign has. My commitment to our community has been strengthened by this campaign, and I look forward to giving back to it in other ways for now.
Thank you,
John Wilson
